Grow Your Own Candy Canes

I have been busy making Christmas decorations to give to people that donate to the local food bank. You just might find the tree somewhere in town. Wait and see. Every five dollar donation will get you one. If you donate ten dollars you get to pick two, and so on.

I will be posting all the different decorations, tags and stocking stuffers over the next few weeks so stay tuned.

Did you know you can grow your own Candy Canes? Well now you do. Just plant these in the snow, a few days later you just might find some poking through the snow.

I Solemnly Swear Bracelet

I am testing a new glue so I made a letter bracelet for a girl at work. It is a phrase from the movie Harry Potter. “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.”

Someone that makes belts gave me a few rolls of this in black and brown. I used velcro instead of a clasp.

9 3/4 Platform (Harry Potter) Necklace

I made this Harry Potter inspired 9 3/4 platform pendant for an HP fan. I added the elephant because J.K. Rowling wrote some of the Harry Potter books in Edinburgh, Scotland at a coffee shop called The Elephant House.

I have decided to add a lobster clasp to all my pendants so each of them can be attached to any chain or cord. That way they can be used on any bracelet, necklace or key chain.

Harry Potter Snitch Ball

I am starting to make jewelry and fashion accessories again. It has been so long and I feel like I am having to learn all over. My eyesight isn’t as good as it was. But it keeps me from being bored.

This is supposed to be a snitch ball from the book/movie Harry Potter. I have found someone that likes odd and unusual things, so she will be my guinea pig for all my future creations.

Miniature Yarn Hat Tutorial

Aren’t these adorable?

You can use anything round for the rim. Cut a piece from a toilet paper roll or something similar. I used the bottom of a used K-Cup.

The length of the yarn will depend on how small or large your hat will be. I wrapped a bunch of yarn around some dowels. Tied it in the middle to hold them together and then cut the ends. Leaving me with several strands to work with.

Now it is time to attach the strands around the rim.

Keep going until you have covered the entire rim.

Now we will fold the yarn under the rim and up through the middle.

Next we will tie some yarn near the top where we will make the pom-pom. Cut to desired size.

If you would like fuzzy hat, use a cat hair brush. Brush strands before pushing them up through the rim.

I save the fuzz from the brush to use as hairs for my clay dolls. But that is for another post.

Home Made Mod Podge

I have to watch my spending now more than ever before. One thing I use a lot of is glue. If there is a project I am making that needs to be painted and has a surface that paint does not usually cover well, my go to is covering the surface with a one ply layer of a napkin. This requires Mod Podge. It is not cheap, so I make my own. All you need is regular (dollar store) white school glue. Take one cup of glue and add 1/3 cup of water. Works for me!
